When click "custom" during Win 10 clean install via usb drive Window media creation tool download, I still end up with the main c drive that I can't delete, because it's greyed out, as well as the recovery partition that came with my laptop that I also can not delete because also greyed out too.
I'd like the follow the directions here , but can't because I can't delete them? I install anyway, but have some issues, and may want to retry. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Dave, I did that, but although the C drive and the recovery partition Yes I did create a bootable flash drive from a Win 10 instillation media installed from that.
That's how I did it.. Just now, I did this to see: Do I clean all there of them? I can assure the the Disk 1 is a recovery partition that came with my laptop. So can I just leave it? It will be be greyed out during installation, so I will not be able to delete all partitions. Would this be a problem?
Do I clean them all, one after the other, and then, after they are all cleaned, run ONE command of "convert gpt"? Do I wait for the first dialog box to appear? Hi abpc From your screenshot of Disk Management, you have a hard drive with 3 partitions and a 16GB flash drive that is unallocated. Have you followed the procedure to create bootable Windows 10 installation media on that flash drive? If so, boot from that flash drive, then choose the bottom button on the installation routine - Custom: Install Windows 10 Only Please provide a photo of the next window in the installation routine that shows the 3 partitions on your hard drive.
Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. In reply to DaveM's post on December 8, I don't see any flash drive in there.
Hi abpc No, you only need to select Disk 0 and clean that, then run the rest of the commands. Thanks Dave! Hi abpc You know your system better than I do, if that is the Recovery partition, then clean all partitions, this will not cause any problems. I have no idea what disk 2 is, but I don't care. If I clean them all then what is the order?
In other words: Do I clean them all, one after the other, and then, after they are all cleaned, run ONE command of "convert gpt"? Or do I run the "conver gpt" command after each clean command? Also, can I do this for Disk 1 and 2 now? Thanks Dave, you're a life saver! Hi abpc No problem, I am glad to Help. I it was me, I would clean Disk 0, then convert that to GPT, then install Windows 10 onto that partition, once Windows is installed, the rest can be resolved.

If you can get a picture showing the partitions, it might help. If you had added a partition the drive was already in the GPT configuration and you don't need the space, you may not have to delete such a partition.

Hi Charles Yes, you need to delete all partitions on the system drive, until you have just 1 unallocated space If you have another drive in your PC, please make sure not to touch any partition on that drive also make sure not to delete the partition on the installation media.
You should then end up with just 1 unallocated space, select that and click Next to install Windows if there is any partition on that drive that will not delete, please provide the exact error you are seeing.
Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Because the system reserved partition stores the startup files needed to successfully load the Windows operating system. If you delete the reserved partition of the system, it will cause the system to fail to boot normally. Moreover, the system reserved partition is protected by the Windows system, and you cannot delete it through Disk Management unless you use a third-party tool. But the recovery partition can be deleted, also with the help of third-party tool.
It's just that after deletion, when there is a problem with the system, you cannot use the built-in Windows tools to restore it. The following two parts will introduce you how to deal with system reserved partition and recovery partition. According to the above description, the system reserved partition is very important and cannot be deleted.
However, I still have a method that allows you to reduce the chaotic partition to extend system drive without deleting them, which is to install the system on a reserved system partition to reduce the separate system drive.
Step 1. When you clean install Windows on an empty disk without partitions , you will be prompted to create additional partitions for system files. Step 2. Step 3. Now you only have one system reserved partition and unallocated space. You need to extend the space of Partition 1.
When extending the space, enter all the free space of the unallocated space. Step 4. Now you only have one system reserved partition, and then install the system in this partition. In this way, you reduce the partition originally used to install the system.
After installing Windows 10, if you insist on deleting the recovery partition, please continue reading. It is a professional partition management software that can help you easily complete many operations related to partitions. Download and Install. The recovery partition will be displayed as unallocated space and click " Apply " to make the operation in process. You can add this unallocated space to any partition on this disk by using merge partition.
What should you do if you want to extend the system drive without changing the system reserved partition and recovery partition?
