I have the same problem with a slight difference, the HDMI button is already nicked and the icon shows sound coming out but there is no actual sound getting through the hdmi cable.
If it shows that sound is coming out but in reality it isn't then you just have to right click the hdmi or tv icon, select properties, select levels tab and adjust the bar so you can hear it properly. The TV is wkndows receiving the video signal from the laptop. There is no fere. The sound comes out of my laptop but not from the TV. Haven't made any changes to my TV or laptop sojnd.

It was working fine until now. I have made no changes to my settings so I'm unsure as to what may have caused this. I tried the suggested work-around ight-click icon an dselect playback device as HDMI Didn't work. I wonder if some recent update patches may have changed something? Great stuff thanks a mill. I right click the sound Icon select playback devices and all that shows up is the realtek high definition audio. Fix: select the "realtek high definition audio" icon once it is hi-light right click and select show disabled devices. HDMI shows up a disconnected in the Playback devices. It was working fine until now but now I can't get it to work.
