As far as I'm concerned this book became obsolete as I was using it. To really complicate things I introducotry have no idea how to return it, since it was a rental. I have made inquiries, with no response. I certainly don't want to end up owning this semi-useful, soon to be completely outdated book. The format for this textbook is unnecessarily complicated and not user friendly.
Instead of limiting initial student assignments to the concepts needed to produce a simple document, slide presentation, spreadsheet or database they include lots of more advanced software features that many users will never need. This textbook needs a good editor. The task at hand tends to get lost. You spend a lot of time flipping and searching through prior pages to find essential information to complete the current specific task.
The size of the explanatory figure screen shots is too small to be legible and the colors chosen for much of the text is difficult to read, especially in classrooms where the intrductory are dimmed to use projection screens. In addition the text is to heavy to lug from home to the classroom. I took another Microsoft office class with a different book and it did not give me the detail that this introduchory as given, for example I did not learn how to enter data into an Excel sheet.
There were no assignments in which one entered data into the worksheet we just modified excel workbooks that we downloaded. This book shows one how to enter data. Great book. Really straight forward. This book gives literal step by step instructions on how to create important documents. For those of us with proficient use of the computer, it's kinda slow and unnecessary. But for those lost in technology, this is the book to get.
You CAN'T not get it, because it literally tells you what to do one step at a time, including something as simple as How to Save a File.
