Regards Andrew. Message 2 of Hi Andrew, Yeah that's some pretty weird behavior, considering the same part is resolved and unresolved in the same assy Message 3 of Where is the file saved? I would look at the IPJ too Did you find this reply helpful? If so please use the Accept as Solution or Kudos button below. Message 4 of Hi Andrew, Are you using Vault at all? Have you tried recreating this assembly to see if you can duplicate this? Restarted your machine lately? Message 5 of Hello Lewis.

Message 6 of Message 7 of They break the dependency between your Autodesk Inventor dataset and its file locations. This basically means that your files may be relocated without editing assembly or drawing files. Guided by a Project File, Autodesk Inventor is able to find the data in the new location without the hassles associated with unresolved links.

This is possible because Autodesk Inventor's documents only store a reference's file name, not its location. Instead, the software relies upon Project Files for these locations, meaning the software is flexible with data storage. As an assembly is opened, Autodesk Inventor will automatically search for the data it needs based on the locations listed in the active Project File. To simplify project management, Autodesk Inventor lets you create a separate Project File for each design.

This unique functionality changes the focus of the data you use on a project-by-project basis. When an assembly is opened, Autodesk Inventor uses search paths within the active Project File as a guide to locate component parts and sub-assemblies. There are four different types of search paths that can be defined within a Project File: workspace, local, workgroup, and library. These search paths make Project Files flexible, allowing Autodesk Inventor to pull data from various independent locations.

This is a "work-in-progress" location on your personal workstation and acts as the default location for creating new files. Only one workspace can be defined with each Project File. Local Search Path. You might copy a released design to a local search path location in order to create revisions, modifications, or a one-off design. There can be several local search paths.

Workgroup Search Path. This search path is defined for file locations that will be accessed by other people working on the project. This could be server space reserved for a project or the location where released files are stored.

There can be several workgroup search paths. Library Search Paths. Solution: To resolve the assembly temporary solution Right-click on the main assembly in the model browser. Select Resolve Files. Follow the steps from the Inventor to show the file localization. Note : Follow the steps from "To avoid unresolved components" to avoid the message. Otherwise, after each opening, the issue will arise. Content Center files bolts, nuts etc. Caution: If you replace a company server and rename the server to a different name then you will have problems opening up.

We found this out the hard way. Many hours trying to open up old. Should you need to export the report, make sure that the Delimiter in Windows Regional settings is set to a Tab character.

That eliminates the confusion of commas in file paths. The window seems not to be outside the screns working with 2 screens but the app seems just to be unable to launch.

Do you or someone else have an idea how to fix this? Thanks you so much — Frank. The Reference Manager 2. But the pc3 and ctb files are not found. But these files are for sure in the standard acad support file. Manager is my correct current profile. Unfortunately we have clients that require files to be saved as older version formats such as acad and acad xref manager wont allow that. I have a quick query about xrefs and maybe you can help.

There are a about 80 drawings that reference this file and it gets time consuming to Link the most updated xref everytime.

Inventor unresolved components - Autodesk Community.the mystery of unresolved files - Autodesk Community

I have problem with unresolved components. For begin I work on default project and i save parts in server, but differents folders. When i create assemly and i want to reopen it, I get this tab see picture 1. I press ok. But in browser shows that some of details are not resolved picture 2. Then i go on browser and press resolve files. Than comes resolve link tab, and i resolve all files manually picture Why it's happening? It wasn't before.

How i can do taht all these parts resolve automaticlly or be good without manual resolving at first.. This is your real problem - a badly planned project file setup. The Default project, unless you have customized it, is set up to work within the My Documents folder on your local hard drive.

You will have unresolved file issues until this is addressed. Most likely, some files or folders were moved or renamed, which set off all the link breakage. But the real cause is the way you are using your project file and organizing your files.

The risk of this happening was always there due to your setup, but you only recently did something to actually set it off and start seeing errors. You have likely been receiving warnings when placing parts in assemblies, or model views in drawings, saying that "the file is not in the search path of the active project file.

This is the problem that message was trying to warn you about. You need to rethink your project file setup so that your files are all included in the workspace of a single project file. Or alternatively, so that you're using multiple project files to work in different locations on unrelated items.

Another possibility is that the some files were saved in newer releases. The Inventor release you have cannot open the files directly. How we find, the problem will be not sure with folders in server.

We usually take couple folded to general main computer folder from server. And they get letter x, y,z like hard disc or cd reader. So we think, that we change letters.

So that's why new or old parts didn't find the way to get to assembly Drive renaming, when combined with the bad project file practices you described, would definitely trigger the unresolved references. The project file setup is the root of the problem. In most cases, a well-designed project file structure would be able to handle a drive letter change without much trouble.
